Attention is a ubiquitous and important feature of our psychological lives. But what exactly is it? Until recently, there was little philosophical work on attention (with a few notable exceptions). There is now increasing interest in this topic, but with a focus on the way that social factors make things stand out as salient.
My interest is in the nature of the phenomenon itself. I’m using ideas from phenomenology to try and understand this further.
The Attention Reading Group meets monthly to discuss these issues.
